Star Health Insurance
Star Health Insurance health insurance is a standalone health insurance company providing health insurance solutions in India. Company offers wide range of health and accident products. Products are offered individually and also as family floater plans. The tag line of the company is "Health Insurance Specialist". Star health Plans offer 5% family discount on premium if 2 or more persons are covered under the same policy in family floater. Dependent children's are covered up to age of 25 years. There is compulsory medical if proposer or any of the family members is above 45 years of age. Pre-existing diseases are covered after a waiting period of 48 months. It also allows 15 days grace period for renewal premium payment.
Health Insurance Plans at a glance:
1) Medi Classic Plan:
Medi classic plan is basic star health mediclaim plan and is available as individual plan as well as family floater plan. The minimum cover is Rs. 50,000 and maximum is Rs. 10 lakhs in individual plan. The minimum cover in family floater is Rs. 2 lakhs and maximum is Rs.3 lakhs. The plan has room rent and boarding sub-limit of 2% of the sum assured or Rs.5,000 whichever is lower. Renewal for Rs. 10 lakhs sum assured is available till the age of 65 years but Rs. 5 lakh sum assured can continue till 80 years. Individual plan offer no claim discount from 5 to 25% but no discount is available for family package plan.
2) Family Health Optima:
Family Health Optima is a family floater plan the minimum cover in family floater is Rs. 1 lakhs and maximum is Rs.15 lakhs. The premium is charged as per the zone. Zone 1 covers Mumbai, Delhi and Gujarat and Zone 2 covers the rest of India. The plan is available till age 65 years. There are pre medical tests to be done for proposer aged 50 years and above. The plan also offers automatic restoration of the entire sum assured upon exhaustion of entire sum assured during the year if sum assured is 3 lakhs and above.
3) Star Super Surplus:
Super surplus is a top up health insurance plan. These plans cover the expenses only if the total expenses exceed a pre-specified threshold limit (deductible). The plan is available as individual plan as well as family floater plans for fixed Rs. 7 lakhs and Rs. 10 lakhs sum assured with deductible of 3 lakhs. The premium of this plan is relatively cheap. One should buy a top-up plan with a deductible equal to the cover of your basic health plan. This plan can help when there are major hospitalization expenses arising out of critical illness or major accident.
4) Senior Citizen Red Carpet:
The plan is offered to senior citizens aged between 60 years to 74 years. No pre medical are required and it is renewable after 74 years of age. The treatment is required to be taken at network hospitals only. Pre-existing diseases are also covered subject to certain conditions. The minimum sum assured offered is Rs. 1 lakh and maximum is Rs. 5 lakhs. The plan has a compulsory co-pay of 50% in case of pre existing disease and 30% in all other cases.
Star health has recently launched two new products in the market, star comprehensive and star delite. Star health also gives accidental and overseas travel insurance.
Features: 1.Covers HIV positives persons except for opportunistic infection and treatment for HIV / AIDS. The minimum CD 4 count at the time of entry should be 350. 2. Non Allopathic treatments upto 25% of sum insured subject to a maximum of Rs.25,000/- per occurence, per year of insurance.
General Exclusions: 1.Naturopathy treatment . 2. Expenses which are purely diagnostic in nature with no positive existence of any disease . 3. Expenses which are mainly cosmetic in nature 4.Treatment of Congenitall external disease/defects /anomalies .
PreExisting Coverage: Pre-Existing disease (other than those disease / conditions for which specific periods have been mentioned under exclusions) will be covered after 11 months of continuous coverage have elapsed from the policy date.
Co-Pay: 30% of each and every admissible claim.
