Insurers have seen a huge increase in premium incomes from unit-linked insurance plans (ULIP). Reportedly, the income increased by 27 per cent for the period between April-November 2006 and April-November 2007. The income increased by 27 per cent, from Rs. 35,219 crore to Rs. 44,695 crore during the period.
According to industry experts, a minimum of 40 to 50 percent of the premium incomes will be invested into the equity markets. This trend, if continues, will result in insurance playing a very crucial role in the Indian equity markets.
