Foreign direct investment of $540 mn in insurance sector

$540 million of FDI has been pumped in Indian insurance sector for the period ending on March 31, 2007. As per the regulations, Foreign Direct investment in the insurance sector is capped at 26 per cent.

$540 million of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has been pumped in Indian insurance sector as on March 31, 2007. According to regulations, FDI in the insurance sector is capped at 26 per cent.

Insurance industry has grown many folds in past few years, but India is lagging behind. It ranks 78th and 54th in terms of insurance density and penetration respectively.

India's insurance density was $19.70 as compared to the $469.6 of the world's average insurance density.
