ICICI Lombard General insurance Company will implement a health insurance scheme for families below poverty line (BPL) called the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana.
The objective of the scheme is to meet hospitalization expenses and surgical procedures of beneficiary members, up to Rs. 30,000 per family per year. Family here is being defined as consisting of a maximum of five members. The family would get benefit on a floater basis. That is, the total reimbursement of Rs 30,000 could be availed individually or jointly by members of the family. The Employee State Insurance (ESI) wing of the Labor Department is the nodal agency for this scheme.
In the first phase, the scheme was put into effect in four districts in Haryana - Faridabad, Yamunanagar, Panipat and Bhiwani. The scheme is implemented jointly by Central and State Government in a 75-25 ratio. Haryana is the leading state in the implementing this scheme.
