There are no restrictions on the number of properties that a foreign national of Indian origin can acquire for residential purposes. This provision is so that the purchase price is paid in foreign currency remitted to India. As for repatriating monies out of India from sale proceeds, it is limited to the original investment and two properties. Moreover, partial repatriation is allowed only if such properties were acquired after May 26, 1993 and sold only after a period of three years from the date of their acquisition.
