Bajaj is launching KTM sports bikes, built locally.
The 690 Supermoto and 690 Duke of the Australian sports bike manufacturer will be assembled at the company's Chakan plant in Pune.
The bikes will be brought to India as completely knocked down (CKD) or semi knocked down (SKD) kits. Despite being locally assembled, the bike will be quite expensive in the current Indian market scenario.
Bajaj's strategy of assembling its partners' high capacity bikes is aimed at keeping the costs down and making the vehicles more affordable for local consumption.
The 690 Supermoto will be launched by the middle of this year.
The company is also planning to build Ninja 250 bike, another high performance bike, with its long-time collaborator Kawasaki. The Ninja 250 too will be brought to India as CKD or SKD kits.
Both companies are looking to develop high performance, water cooled engines for a 125cc to 180cc bike and a 250cc bike.
